Kingsborough runs to second straight DIII title
The Wave won nine events to run away with the DIII outdoor women's championship

Utica, NY – Shantal Rouse guided Kingsborough (NY) to the 2018 NJCAA DIII Women's Outdoor Track and Field National Championship. The sophomore was a part of seven first-place finishes, including four individual to lead the Wave to its second consecutive title on Saturday at Mohawk Valley Community College.
Kingsborough, ranked No. 2 in a majority of the regular season national polls leaped to No. 1 in the week leading up to the national meet. The Wave proved their position in the polls with a dominant performance in three-day event after registering 155 points, the second most at a DIII national track meet since 2011.
Rowan-Gloucester (NJ) finished second at the meet with 117 points followed by Harper (IL) with 112. Bergen (NJ) and Middlesex (NJ) rounded out the top five.
- Rouse, who earned four All-America honors as a freshman, upped her performance in 2018 with individual titles in the 100, 200, and 400-meter dash along with the long jump.
- This is the second consecutive year Kingsborough swept the 100, 200, and 400-meter dashes after Tatyana Mills won all three in 2017.
- Kingsborough captured the 4x100, 4x400, and 4x800-meter relays as Rouse played a major role in each event to guide the Wave to the championship.
- Nyeira Gordon was victorious in the 100 and 400-meter hurdles for Kingsborough to round out the first-place finishes.
- Freshman Elisia Lancaster powered Rowan-Gloucester in the field events with an individual title in the hammer, discus, and shot put.
- Harper's Breanna Bogucki placed first in both the 5,000 and 10,000-meter runs to pace the Hawks.
- Bergen's Allison Bryan captured the women's heptathlon as part of the Bulldogs three championships. Elizabeth Vargas topped the competition in the javelin throw while the 3,000-meter steeplechase went to sophomore Justine Conca.
- Kingsborough's Dave Loobie was named the national coach of the year after the meet.
- The Kingsborough men finished third overall while Rowan-Gloucester finished first
