Council Bluffs extended as wrestling host
The NJCAA Wrestling Championship host since 2016 has been selected for an additional two years through 2023.
Charlotte, NC - Council Bluffs, IA has been named the host of the NJCAA Wrestling Championships for an additional two years.
The NJCAA made the announcement Wednesday that the Mid-America Center, the host of the previous five championships, would continue to be the site of the premier NJCAA wrestling event through at least 2023. The facility has ample space for the needed performance area. The opening sessions include eight live mats simultaneously before concluding with all eyes on the final round bouts on a single mat.
Situated across the river from Omaha, NE; Council Bluffs is home to Iowa Western Community College. The institution has served as host since 2016 and will continue to do so with the help of the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference and its wrestling members.
"It's an honor once again for Iowa Western to host the NJCAA Wrestling Championships," said Iowa Western President Dr. Dan Kinney. "This event brings together the best and brightest young athletes for two days of spirited competition and camaraderie. The college staff and the entire City of Council Bluffs is excited for the upcoming events, and we look forward to everyone traveling again to our fine city."
This past year saw Clackamas win its second-straight national championship, one of the last national titles won in any collegiate sport this season before COVID-19 forced the cancelation of the rest of the intercollegiate athletic season across all levels. The host, Iowa Western, finished a program-best third in the 2020 edition.
