NJCAA Student-Athletes play in AAU Girls 3-on-3 National Championship
Charlotte, NC – In conjunction with the Women's Basketball Hall of Fame Induction weekend, AAU Girls had a 3-on-3 National Championship April 26-27 in Knoxville, Tennessee. The NJCAA had 32 sophomore student-athletes and eight NJCAA head coaches representing the Association with eight NJCAA players named All-Americans.
Out of the 32, the eight NJCAA student-athletes named All-American players were Amelia Hassett of Eastern Florida State, Vitoria Santana of Eastern Arizona, Maeva Ngnawo Nguiensam of Cochise, Kayla Hampton of Kilgore, Fanta Kone of Tyler, Nyla Inmon of Kilgore, Waiata Jennings of Collin, and Aaliyah Holmes of New Mexico JC.
Playing for a chance at an AAU Gold, eight NJCAA coaches took the court with NJCAA student-athletes. Rochester head women's basketball coach, Jason Bonde, secured the win and earned an AAU Gold in a 25-12 victory against Minnesota West head women's basketball coach, Rosalie Hayenga-Hostikka in the finals.
The championship was split into two pools with the top four in Pool A being Jason Bonde of Rochester in first, Rosalie Hayenga-Hostikka of Minnesota West in second, Jeff Allen of Collin in third, and Misty Opat of Cochise in fourth. The top four in Pool B were Darryl Watkins of Rock Valley in first, MJ Baker of Eastern Florida State in second, Jasmine Coleman of Walters State in third, and Precious Ivy of Trinity Valley in fourth.
After having the opportunity to play in the AAU Girls 3-on-3 National Championship, the NJCAA student-athletes who made it to the championship game were given the chance to attend the Women's Basketball Hall of Fame induction ceremony.
