Dan Colella Inducted into the NJCAA Swimming & Diving Coaches Association Hall of Fame
Charlotte, NC – The NJCAA has announced Dan Colella to be inducted into the NJCAA Swimming & Diving Coaches Association Hall of Fame. Dan Colella's induction into the Swimming & Diving Coaches Association Hall of Fame highlights his impactful career in collegiate swimming, including his foundational work at the NJCAA level. At Indian River, Colella helped guide the men's and women's swimming and diving programs to national championships from 1986 to 1990. During his tenure, the program established itself as a national contender, producing high-level performances and contributing to the college's sustained success in NJCAA competition. His work during this period played a key role in shaping one of the most successful NJCAA swim programs of its era.
Colella went on to build a long career in NCAA Division I swimming, including leadership positions at the University of Tennessee and Duke University. Across his career, he coached 64 CSCAA All-Americans and 24 ACC Conference Champions, with teams regularly represented at NCAA Championships and major international competitions. In 2023, he received the Richard E. Steadman Award, recognizing his contributions to the sport of swimming and diving. His Swimming & Diving Coaches Association Hall of Fame induction reflects both his NJCAA accomplishments and his broader contributions to collegiate swimming over nearly four decades.
