2007 NJCAA Soccer Hall of Fame Inductees
One legendary coach along with four players, one defender, one midfielder, one forward, and one goalkeeper, spanning numerous years of junior college soccer are the 2007 inductees to the NJCAA Soccer Hall of Fame. In Texas during the month of November, the five inductees to the sport will be officially honored at the NJCAA Division One Soccer Tournament Banquet at Tyler Junior College and at the NJCAA Division Three Soccer Tournament Banquet at Richland College. They will join 39 players, coaches and contributors already named in the NJCAA Soccer Hall of Fame. The 2007 Hall of Fame class includes:
George Vizvary has coached at the junior college ranks for 33 years. He has led Ulster Community College (NY) to 18 National Tournament appearances, including two national championships. Entering the 2007 season, his overall record is 485-145-25. He has the most wins all-time for junior college coaches. He has coached numerous All-Americans in addition to four players on the NJCAA Team of the Century.
Kelvin Jack was the 1997 NJCAA All-Tournament Most Valuable Player while leading Yavapai College to a 3-0 National Championship win against the host team, Mercer County (NJ). He was a NJCAA & NSCAA First Team All-American and NSCAA National JUCO Player of the Year in 1998. He is Yavapai's all-time leader in shutouts (31), with a goal against average of 0.45. He was the goalkeeper for Trinidad & Tobago in the 2006 World Cup and has played professionally for Dundee in the Scotland Premier League as well as for Reading and Gillingham FC in England .
Richard Reid was named the Most Valuable Player of the 1994 NJCAA National Tournament while leading Spartanburg Methodist College to a National Championship victory over Yavapai College. It remains the school's only national title. A top notch central defender, he also played at Lander University as well as for the Palm Beach Pumas for two seasons each.
Garthfeld Whyte was a hard tackling midfielder that played at Meridian Community College ( Miss. ) during the 2000 and 2001 seasons. He was selected to the NJCAA All-Tournament Team while leading his squad to the 2000 NJCAA National Championship. The following year he was named to both the NJCAA & NSCAA All-America team. He was a member of the NCAA Division II National Championship team at Lynn University ( Fla. ) in 2002 and later finished his career in England .
Ricky Charles was a pivotal member which allowed Bryant & Stratton College (NY) to celebrate its first National Championship in 2001 against Yavapai College as well as earning the National Runner-up award in 2000. He was the 2001 NJCAA All-Tournament Most Valuable Player and a First Team All-America candidate for the NJCAA and NSCAA. He continued his success by scoring a goal as he represented Grenada against the USA in the 2006 World Cup Qualifiers. He is playing professionally for the New Hampshire Phantoms of the USL.
