Herkimer southpaw Farone named DIII Pitcher of the Year
Charlotte, NC - Herkimer sophomore Greg Farone has been named the 2022 NJCAA DIII Baseball Pitcher of the Year.
The southpaw put together an impressive season for the national champion Generals. Farone pitched 60.0 innings and struck out 139 batters, which led the nation. His 20.85 K/9 led the nation by over 3.0. The sophomore also tossed five complete games on the season, all of which were shutout performances. On April 24, Farone took the mound against SUNY Adirondack (NY) and threw a five-inning perfect game where he struck out all 15 batters he faced. This effort earned him NJCAA DIII Baseball National Player of the Week honors.
Farone took the mound in the opening game of the 2022 NJCAA DIII Baseball Championship against No. 3 seed Northern Essex (MA). He threw a complete-game shutout while striking out 15 batters and only allowing two hits. Herkimer advanced all the way to the national championship game and Farone entered to pitch the final six innings. The sophomore only had one earned run and struck out 10 batters to give the Generals its first National Championship in school history. These efforts earned Farone World Series MVP honors.
