2010 NJCAA Baseball All-Americans Released
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (June 7, 2010) -- The 2010 NJCAA Baseball All-American teams for each of the three divisions of play have been selected and released. For the second straight year over 10,000 student-athletes suited up to play NJCAA baseball this season, which is the most athletes to participate in any NJCAA sport for the 2009-10 academic year.
Of the 10,000 student-athletes that suited up this year in the sport of baseball in Divisions I, II and III, only 126 earned NJCAA All-America honors.
The 2010 first team selections for each division are below with links to each of the full All-American baseball teams.
Division I
The 2010 NJCAA Division I Baseball First-Team All-Americans are highlighted by Wes Cook (P) of Central Alabama who was a Third-Team honoree last year. He and Andrew Morris of Gulf Coast (Fla.) are the only repeat All-Americans this year. Morris earned Honorable-Mention honors in 2009 and 2010.
First-Team honorees include Bryce Harper (C) of Southern Nevada, Brent Seifert of Iowa Western and Miguel Pena (P) of San Jacinto (Texas). All three had incredible seasons that helped their teams reach this year's DI World Series in Grand Junction, Colo. Harper, the No. 1 pick in this year's MLB Draft to the Washington Nationals, hit .443 with a school-record 31 home runs and 98 RBI in 66 games. Seifert batted over .500 for the regular season and hit a game-winning home run to eliminate Southern Nevada at the World Series. Pena went 13-1 with a 1.97 ERA during the regular season and was 2-2 at the DI World Series, including a 13 strikeout performance against Hutchinson (Kan.).

Division II
Notable players on the DII All-America First-Team include Tyler Hall (INF) of Grand Rapids (Mich.) and Raph Rhymes (OF) of LSU - Eunice (La.). Hall was a First-Team selection in 2009, making him just the fourth player in DII history to earn First-Team accolades in back-to-back seasons (Jake Astor, Des Moines Area in 2008 and 2009; Chad Fox, Carl Albert College in 2000 and 2001; Derek Drage, Parkland College in 2002, 2003). Hall batted .482 this season with 42 RBIs and 39 stolen bases. Rhymes helped lead LSU Eunice to their third national title since 2006 by driving in 94 runs during the regular season with a .491 batting average. He was 10-24 at the DII World Series with three doubles and four RBIs.

A pair of mighty Minnesota sluggers highlight the DIII First-Team All-America list for 2010. Shane Kampsen of Ridgewater led the DIII ranks with a .530 batting average and 63 RBI while Brian Voigt of Riverland Community College (Minn.) led the division in home runs with 16. Also on the First-Team is pitcher Kyle Olsen from Sulffolk-Grant (N.Y.) who dominated hitters with a 1.40 ERA in 59 innings pitched during the regular season to go with an 8-0 record.
