Enough former NJCAA players were selected in the new league's inaugural draft this week to fill an entire 52-man XFL roster.
Charlotte, NC – The inaugural XFL Draft took place this week for the newly created league, set to start play in February 2020. A total of 52 former NJCAA players had their names called in the five-phase draft. 34 NJCAA programs had a former player selected, led by Iowa Western's four selections.
Former NJCAA All-American quarterback Jordan Ta'amu (New Mexico Military) was assigned to the St. Louis Battlehawks to start the process of filling the league's rosters. Each team will trim down to a final 52-man regular season roster by the time the league kicks off on February 8, 2020.
The draft was completed in five phases. After a quarterback assignment was made to each of the league's eight teams, the next four phases consisted of 10 rounds each to fill specific roster needs. The final round was an open round where teams were free to select any remaining players in the draft pool.
