NJCAA announces roster and staff for NBC World Series
Murray State head coach Zach Crabtree is set to lead 26 of the nation's best into Wichita
The NJCAA Baseball Coaches Association announced Wednesday this year's NJCAA National Team roster and coaching staff that will participate in the 82nd National Baseball Congress (NBC) World Series.
Representing 22 colleges from 11 states across all three divisions of NJCAA baseball, the national team features some of the best two-year college players from across the country. Headlining the roster are 2016 ABCA/Rawlings NJCAA Division I Baseball Player of the Year Brylie Ware from Neosho County (Kan.), 2016 Spalding® NJCAA DI Baseball Defensive Player of the Year Caleb Knight of Connors State (Okla.) and 2016 Spalding® NJCAA DIII Pitcher of the Year Jonathan Groff from Tyler (Texas). The team features 11 NJCAA All-Americans, five NJCAA Marucci Elite Hitters, two ABCA/Rawlings Gold Glove Award® winners, three national champions and 18 NCAA DI signees.
Zach Crabtree of Murray State (Okla.) takes over the head coach role for this year's squad. Crabtree served as an assistant on the NJCAA National Team that played in the 2014 NBC World Series. In 2013, he directed the Aggies to their first and only national championship. Joining Crabtree on the staff are Northwest Florida State head coach Doug Martin, Tyler head coach Doug Wren, South Florida State head coach Rick Hitt and Florida SouthWestern State assistant athletic director George Sanders.
From July 29 – August 13, the NJCAA National Team will compete against elite amateur teams from across the map. The tournament will once again be played at Lawrence-Dumont Stadium in Wichita, Kansas, which has hosted the event since 1935.
