Men's Basketball Players of the Week: Jan. 21-27

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Jordan Johnson (East Georgia State), Bryant Fultz (Highland CC, Kan.) and Tommie Starkes (Rockland CC, N.Y.) have been named NJCAA men’s basketball players of the week for games Jan. 21-27.


DIVISION I PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Jordan Johnson – East Georgia State College
Guard – Hinesville, Ga. – First Presbyterian High School

In the Bobcats’ lone game last week, Johnson put up impressive numbers in a 102-92 upset of No. 9 Chattahoochee Tech (Ga.). The sophomore led all scorers with a career-high 38 points, hitting 12-of-21 shots from the field and draining eight 3-pointers. Johnson spread the ball around with five assists and pulled down six rebounds in the effort. On the defensive end, Johnson picked away three steals.


DIVISION II PLAYER OF THE WEEK  

Bryant Fultz – Highland Community College, Kan.
Forward – Alexandria, Va. – West Potomac High School

Despite falling in their first game of last week, the Scotties pulled it together around Fultz and ended their four-game losing streak. In a narrow 77-74 loss to Coffeyville CC (Kan.), Fultz posted a double-double with 20 points and 10 rebounds. Highland earned their first victory in two weeks with an 81-71 win over Independence CC (Kan.) as Fultz registered another double-double with 17 points and 13 rebounds. The freshman notched his third double-double of the week against York JV with 25 points and 16 rebounds as the Scotties cruised to a 107-52 victory.


DIVISION III PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Tommie Starkes – Rockland Community College, N.Y.
Guard – Bronx, N.Y. – Tidewater Academy

Earning his second consecutive player of the week nod and third of the 2012-13 season, Starkes drove the Hawks to two more victories last week. Rockland pulled out a 74-70 win over Suffolk County CC (N.Y.) behind Starkes’ game-high 33 points and 12 rebounds. The performance put Starkes over the 1,000-point mark for the season. The sophomore continued to pile up the points against Borough of Manhattan CC (N.Y.), scoring a game-high 40 to go along with 14 rebounds.
