Colorado Springs, Colo.- Coming off their national championship last season, Heartland Community College (Ill.) lead the 2010 NJCAA Softball Preseason Poll.  Phoenix College (Ariz.), Lansing Community College (Mich.), Kankakee Community College (Ill.), Cowley County Community College (Kan.) round out the top five.

With a 4-1 win over Phoenix College to win the national title last year, Heartland starts the 2010 NJCAA DII Softball Preseason Poll at No. 1.  Going into only their third season, the Hawks are looking for a third straight berth into the championship tournament.  Lizze Andrews returns this season after being named Region Player of the Year and an NJCAA All-American. She lead her team last year with a .432 batting average, including 54 RBI's, five homeruns and 10 stolen bases.  She is joined by three transfers, two from NJCAA schools and one from the four year level.  Adding this experience will boost the defending champions this season.

Coming off a 57-11 record, Phoenix will look to avenge their national championship loss last season. With 20 seasons under his belt, Coach Heinz Mueller knows what to look for in his softball team.  Even with first team All-Americans Lacy Goodman and Teddy Barry moving on to four year programs, Mueller is confident his team as he see's them as a much faster team, "we do have some power and overall speed is the best we have had in year. We're looking to come back and win the national title."  Top returner, Alyssa Goldsmith will take on the leadership role after a .440 average, 51 RBI's and a 2009 All-Tournament honor to her name last season.

Joining in the hunt for a national championship, Lansing is coming off a 54-5 season.  Returning NJCAA All-American, Morgan Goddard will return with her powerful offense this season.  Compiling 59 RBIs, 16 homeruns and a .423 average, Goddard will be tough to stop.  Three other All-Conference selections will add to the depth of this eason tha returns seven starters this season.
