Monroe, Richland lead respective preseason polls

Charlotte, NC – Preseason soccer rankings were released Monday by the NJCAA national office.

Division I Women: Preseason Rankings

Division III Women: Preseason Rankings

Monroe took the top spot in the Division I poll following the program's second women's soccer championship. The Mustangs swept through Pool B at the 2018 NJCAA DI Women's Soccer Championship before edging Iowa Western in the semifinals, 1-0. In the championship game, the Mustangs fell behind 1-0 in the second minute of play before squaring the game at 1-all minutes before halftime. Two second half goals propelled the Mustangs to the claim their title second title after winning previously in 2014.

Richland takes the top preseason spot in the Division III rankings after a remarkable 2018 campaign. On top of their status as defending national champion, the Thunderducks return three starters from the championship squad a year ago -- including Eva Mulligan, who converted the only goal in the decisive 1-0 title game. In typical Richland fashion, the Thunderducks are playing arguably the hardest schedule in all of NJCAA soccer, regardless of division. Dates with ranked Division I sides against No. 5 Navarro, No. 6 Monroe CC, No. 19 Hill: the Thunderducks also will travel to New York to take on No. 6 Erie before a pair of conference games against No. 5 Brookhaven.

The season officially starts Thursday and ends with the NJCAA Women's Soccer Championships in Melbourne, FL (Division I) and Dryden, NY (Division III) in November.
