Freshman Karli Perque of Jones County Junior College (MS) made her presence felt in her inaugural season as a Bobcat. For her efforts, the right handed hurler has been named the 2017 Dudley® NJCAA Division II Softball Pitcher of the Year.
With a perfect 24-0 record in the circle, Perque guided the Bobcats to a 55-4 overall record on the year, a run that led the team all the way to the NJCAA DII title game against LSU-Eunice. The freshman registered a 1.30 earned run average that ranked seventh in the nation and struck out 133 batters.
Perque stifled opposing batters on the year, racking up six complete game shutouts for the Bobcats. Opponents batted just .170 in 129.0 innings of work for Perque.
Along with the pitcher of the year accolade, Perque was named to the NJCAA All-Tournament team as well as a NJCAA and National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) First Team All-American.
“We are so honored that Karli has been named the NJCAA Division II Pitcher of the Year,” exclaimed Jones County head coach Chris Robinson. “What a tremendous accomplishment for both this young lady and our program. Karli and our pitching staff were really consistent throughout the year and provided us with an opportunity to be successful. We could always count on her being very steady and dominant in the circle.”
Robinson continued to praise the dedication brought to the program from Perque. “While her stats are what earned her the award, her impact on our program, both on and off the field is what makes her the individual she is. A terrific kid that bought into our program and will be a great ambassador for Jones County Junior College.”
Perque's success at Jones County has landed her a scholarship to join Southeastern Louisiana University next season.
