Kimari Martin of Hinds CC women's T&F wins national championship

RAYMOND – Kimari Martin (Huntsville, Ala.), a sophomore on the Hinds Community College women's track and field team, ran the 400-meter dash in 54.48 seconds to win the national championship at the 2014 National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Indoor Nationals in New York City, N.Y. over the weekend.

Iris Robinson (Birmingham, Ala.) came in fourth place overall in the same event with a time of 56.50 seconds, while fellow Lady Eagle Alexis Luckett (Pisgah) ran the 400-meter dash in 56.64 seconds to come in fifth place overall.

Hinds ended the meet in 11th place overall out of 27 teams.

The 4x400 meter relay team of Martin, Luckett, Brittany Chism (Hughes, Ark.) and Robinson came in third in the nation with a time of 3:49.54.

Kinsasha Bradley (Edwards) notched a seventh place finish in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.94 seconds, while Chism rounded out the top-10 finishes with a ninth place mark in the 60-meter dash with a time of 7.78 seconds.
