Gyllensten dominates heptathlon field on way to Field Athlete of the Meet honors

NEW YORK,N.Y. – Iowa Central claimed both the men’s and women’s titles Saturday at the NJCAA Indoor Track & Field National Championships but the Vincennes University Track & Field Teams created quite a stir on the NJCAA’s biggest track & field stage.

Both VU squads finished fifth and freshman Simon Gyllensten dominated the heptathlon’s events, scoring a national championship meet record 5,366 points, and he topped the field in the open pole vault to be selected as the Most Valuable Field Athlete of the Meet.

The Trailblazers also boast a national champion in the women’s pole vault. Freshman Kaitlyn Moricz won that event (see heights below in VU highlights from the meet).
