RLC Warriors finish 3rd at NJCAA DII Men's Golf Tournament

PLYMOUTH, Ind. (Oct. 24, 2013) – Rend Lake College golfer Matt Greenfield (Hassocks, England) took eight place with a 223 (77-74-72) at the NJCAA Fall Preview, held Oct. 11-12, at Swan Lakes Golf Club and Resort in Plymouth, Ind. Greenfield’s finish led the Warriors to third place in the tournament.

RLC golfers combined for a 910: 315 on the first 18, 294 on the second day and 301 on the last day. They shot 29 strokes behind Owens Community College of Findlay, Ohio at 881 (292-296-293) and 18 strokes behind Grand Rapids Community College of Grand Rapids, Mich. at 892 (306-297-289) who placed second.

Also competing in the Tournament were Parkland College of Champaign at 912, Muskegon Community College of Muskegon Township, Mich. at 963, Mott Community College of Flint, Mich. at 966, Ancilla College of Donaldson, Ind. at 967 and Clarendon College of Clarendon, Texas at 987.

Blake Swofford, a RLC freshman from Vandalia, tied for ninth with a 224 (82-72-70). RLC sophomore Travis Waninger (Chrisney, Ind.) shot a 232 (77-75-80) to tie for 16th, which included teammate Matt Williams (Mt. Vernon), who shot 80-73-79. Freshman teammate Dalton Korte (Metropolis) shot a 249 (81-86-82) and tied for 34th. Also for RLC, Jesse Sanders (Benton) tied for 42nd at 264 (86-89-89).

Warrior golf is scheduled next at the MGCCC Hilton Garden Inn Invitational at Windance Country Club in Gulfport, Miss. on Oct. 28 and 29. For all things athletic at The Lake, visit RLC online at www.rlc.edu/warriors
