Panthers Fall to Delhi 4-1
DELHI, N.Y. – The Tompkins Cortland Community College women's soccer season came to a frustrating end Tuesday. Playing in the semifinal round of the NJCAA Region III-B playoffs, the Panthers lost at SUNY Delhi, 4-1. TC3 lost despite out-shooting Delhi by a 14-6 margin. TC3, the #3-seed, ends the year with a record of 10-5-1. The #2-seed Broncos advance to the Region III-B championship game Saturday.
The game started on an ominous note, with TC3 starting goal keeper Chelsy Kern (Candor H.S./Candor) being taken out by a Delhi player early in the first half. Delhi scored on the play to lead 1-0, but more importantly, Kern had to be removed from the game to receive medical treatment. While TC3 misfired on numerous chances, Delhi went on to score twice more before the half to lead 3-0.
In the second half, TC3 finally connected, with Erika Faberzak (Cortland H.S./Cortland) putting the Panthers on the board. But it proved to be the only time the Panthers would capitalize, and when Delhi put another one in, the final was 4-1.
The result marks the second straight year TC3’s season has ended with a playoff loss at Delhi.
