Bobcat soccer teams beat Meridian on "Sophomore Day"October 21, 2013
ELLISVILLE – The Jones County Junior College soccer teams celebrated “Sophomore Day” in fine fashion here Saturday at Bobcat Soccer Field.
The 13th-ranked Lady Bobcats defeated Meridian Community College, 3-1. In the nightcap, Kevin Ndongo’s goal at 7:04 of the first overtime lifted the Bobcats to a 4-3 victory.
The Lady Bobcats are now 14-1 overall, 8-1 in the MACJC South Division. They can claim the MACJC South Division title outright with a victory at Mississippi Gulf Coast on Tuesday in the final regular season game.
The Bobcat men are now 11-2-1 overall, 7-2 in division play.
Meridian hosts Pearl River on Tuesday.
Lady Bobcats 3, Lady Eagles 1
JCJC took the lead at 12:21 when Kelsey Cochran scored an unassisted goal.
The Lady Bobcats made it 2-0 when Lindy Tabor scored off a Cochran assist at 46:07. JCJC’s final goal came at 68:32 when Tabor scored off an assist by Carolina Berryhill.
Meridian’s goal came at 72:29 when Meme Huff scored off an assist by Haley Hegwood.
Briahna Dickerson was in goal for the Lady Bobcats and had two saves.
The Lady Bobcats took 18 shots in the game, seven on goal. Meridian took three shots on goal. JCJC had six corner kicks compared to one for MCC.
MCC is now 11-4 overall, 5-4 in the division.
Bobcats 4, Eagles 3 (OT)
JCJC took a 1-0 lead at 11:49 when Souleymane Diakite scored off an assist by Zack Traylor.
Meridian tied it at 47:49 on a goal by Tyler Germany. Germany then scored at 66:47 and 79:33 to give the Eagles a 3-1 lead.
Diakite’s goal at 83:59 made it 3-2 and Ndongo’s goal at 86:23 tied the contest at 3-3.
Gabe Brown was in goal for JCJC and had six saves.
The Bobcats had 12 shots, nine on goal. MCC took nine shots, all on goal. Each team had five corner kicks.
The Eagles are now 4-11 overall and 3-6 in the division.
