Panthers Cap First Undefeated Regular Season

DRYDEN, N.Y. – The Tompkins Cortland Community College men’s soccer team capped an undefeated regular season with a 2-1 win over Sussex County Community College (N.J.) Saturday.  The non-region win leaves the Panthers with a record of 12-0-3, the first undefeated regular season in TC3 soccer history. Next up for the Panthers is the NJCAA Region III playoffs; seedings will be announced next week.

Playing an 11 a.m. start, the Panthers enjoyed the better of play most of the way, but the game was scoreless until the middle of the second half. With 26:32 left on the clock, the home team finally broke through, with Morgan Shutter (Odessa-Montour H.S./Alpine) finishing a pass from Joseph Valle (Monroe Woodbury H.S./Highland Mills). The second score came with 10:25 left, when Mark Scott (Twin Tiers Christian Academy/West Danby) played a beautiful cross to Jesse Kohler (Minisink Valley H.S./Westtown), who tapped it in for his first collegiate score.

Sussex broke up the shutout with a penalty kick goal with 57 second left, but it wasn’t enough to keep the Panthers from securing the win and the undefeated season.

TC3 keeper McZiggy Richards (School for Human Rights H.S./Brooklyn) earned the win in goal.
