Full slate of NJCAA Football games set for Week 2
 August 29, 2013

NJCAA Football Week 2 Preview

With one week of the NJCAA football season already in the books for several teams, the rest of the nation will kick off their 2013 campaigns this week. All 20 ranked teams will be in action in Week 2, including a battle between two Top 10 powerhouses that are looking to earn a signature win before September.

NJCAA Game of the Week

#3 Navarro (1-0) at #6 Hutchinson (1-0)
Saturday, 7:00 p.m. (CT) – WATCH LIVE   LISTEN LIVE   LIVE STATS

Despite being only a week into their 2013 seasons, No. 3 Navarro and No. 6 Hutchinson have an opportunity to earn a critical victory Saturday when the two clash in the Sunflower State.

Opening the year with a 44-14 shellacking of No. 12 Coffeyville, Hutchinson will look to maintain their defensive intensity entering Week 2. The Blue Dragons forced five Coffeyville turnovers last week which they turned into 20 points. Sophomore defensive back Jaylon Myers anchored the effort with three interceptions. Offensively, Hutchinson will depend on another superior performance from sophomore quarterback Luke Barnes (right) who threw for 228 yards and two touchdowns against the Ravens.

Cruising to a 76-26 blowout victory over Arkansas Baptist in Week 1, the Navarro Bulldogs expect a closer matchup Saturday. Rushing for 105 yards and a touchdown on just 11 carries last week, sophomore running back Cameron Washington will be expected to carry the load for the Navarro offense. After a week of play, the Bulldogs’ playmaker on defense looks to be sophomore linebacker Dominique Kelly who racked up a game-high 11 tackles and two sacks in the win over Arkansas Baptist.

Other Key Games Across the Map

Iowa Central (0-0) at #4 Iowa Western (1-0) – Saturday, 2:30 p.m. (CT) – WATCH LIVE   LISTEN LIVE
After surviving a season-opening upset bid, No. 4 Iowa Western enters their conference schedule Saturday when in-state rival Iowa Central comes to town. Reivers sophomore quarterback Connor Bravard threw for 315 yards and two touchdowns in the 24-17 win over Trinity Valley. Playing their first game of 2013, Iowa Central returns seven starters on the offensive side of the ball including sophomore quarterback Chris Bell and sophomore wide receiver Brandynn Clark.

Fond Du Lac (0-0) at #18 Central Lakes (0-0) – Saturday, 1:30 p.m. (CT)
The two MCAC division champions from 2012 will meet in the season-opener Saturday when No. 18 Central Lakes hosts Fond Du Lac. The Central Lakes Raiders are loaded for another run this season with 8 returning starters on offense, including sophomore quarterback Andrew Johnson who compiled 1,873 yards and 20 touchdowns through the air last season. Coming off their first Northern Division regular season title, Fond Du Lac returns sophomore running back James Griffin who rushed for 1,100 yards and 20 touchdowns as a freshman.

Jones County (0-0) at Holmes (0-0) – Thursday, 7:00 p.m. (CT) – WATCH LIVE
After both teams narrowly missed last season’s MACJC playoffs, Jones County and Holmes begin their quests for a return to the postseason Thursday night. With 11 starters coming back, the Holmes Bulldogs will rely on the playmaking abilities of sophomore defensive end Eric Hilton who had 54 tackles and five forced fumbles in 2012. The Bobcats will rely on an experienced offense that returns six starters from last year's team.
