Northeast Football Conference Ready for Week 1
 August 29, 2013

Aug. 28, 2013 - The 17th season for the Northeast Football Conference starts Thursday when league newcomer Monroe College hits the field. Three other NEFC teams will open their 2013 seasons at home in weekend action.

The Mustangs, a probationary member in 2012, will play the Wagner JV at 3:30 p.m. Monroe will have its first home game Sept. 7 against Dean.

Lackawanna and Louisburg will hit the field Saturday while Nassau opens play Sunday. Since joining the NEFC, Louisburg has won the past two regular-season openers while Nassau and Lackawanna have been perfect in opening games since the 2006 season.

The Falcons play host to Navy Prep while the Hurricanes take on the Virginia Beach Military Academy. Nassau plays the Atlanta Sports Academy at 5:30 p.m. Sunday.

ASA, Nassau Ranked: ASA and Nassau were ranked in the recent NJCAA preseason Poll. The Avengers, the 2012 Northeast Football Conference champions, were ranked 10th while the Lions were picked 13th.

ASA and Nassau were two of three NEFC teams to participate in bowl games in 2012. ASA played in the Carrier Dome Bowl while Nassau was in the El Toro Bowl. Louisburg participated in the Graphic Edge Bowl.

Dean and Lackawanna were listed as “Other Teams to Watch” in the 2013 NJCAA football media guide.

Jermaine Eluemumor and Jarell Broxton (Lackawanna) were listed as two of the Top 25 Prospects in the NJCAA. Chad Mavety (Nassau) and Torey Hendrick (ASA) were also listed.

Next Week: All six NEFC members will be in action. Outside of the Dean/Monroe matchup, the NEFC  will play four non-conference foes.
