ECCC Soccer Teams Sweep Southwest

East Central Community College’s soccer teams claimed victories over Southwest Mississippi Community College in non-division matches held Tuesday, August 27 on the Summit campus.

The Lady Warriors won 2-0 to remain undefeated on the young season and the Warriors rallied for a 2-1 decision and their first victory of 2013.

Tamia Cavett scored for the EC women. She is a freshman forward from Murrah High School in Jackson. EC’s other score was an “own goal” and credited to a Southwest player.

The Lady Warriors are 2-0 under first-year head coach Gray Massey.

In the men’s contest, EC scorers were Taylor Potter of Bentonia and Will Thompson of Decatur. Potter is a sophomore forward and product of the Mississippi School for Math and Science. Thompson is a sophomore forward/midfielder from Newton County High School.

Joe Gaskin and Tyler Miller were credited with scoring assists. Gaskin is a freshman forward from Maranatha Christian in Greenville. Miller is a sophomore defender from Moss Point.

Conners Masters scored for Southwest. Joel Villa was credited with an assists.

The Soccer Warriors are 1-2 under 15-year head coach Kenneth Thompson.

EC’s home opener is scheduled Friday, Aug. 30 with Meridian Community College. Game times are 3 and 5 p.m. on the Decatur campus.
