EC Softball Squad Swept by Jones County
 April 24, 2013

The playoff-bound East Central Community College fast-pitch softball squad dropped its home finale with Jones County Junior College Tuesday, April 23.

EC fell 6-0 in the opener and 10-1 in the second contest.

Sophomores Mary Sanders of Adams County Christian, LaJoya Griffin of Philadelphia, Dakota Vowell, Marlee Massey and AJ Peeler, all of Neshoba Central, and Tenna Patterson of Lexington (Ala.) High School were honored during pre-game activities.

The Lady Diamond Warriors will take a 29-13 overall record and 13-9 mark in league play into the regular season finale with Pearl River Community College Saturday, April 27. Doubleheader action begins at noon on the Poplarville campus.

East Central earlier clinched a spot in the MACJC State Softball Tournament scheduled May 2-4 and hosted by South Division winner Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College in Perkinston. The tournament bracket will be announced Monday, April 29. 

In the first contest with Jones County, EC managed just one hit – a double by Griffin in the first inning.

Patterson took the loss on the mound, allowing six earned runs on 10 hits in the seven-inning battle.  She also walked five batters. 

In the second battle, Ty Buckley slapped two singles Griffin tripled and Kristen Chipley belted an RBI double to lead the EC offense. Buckley is a product of Neshoba Central High School and Chipley hails from Leake Academy.

Other hitters were Haley Stephens of Union and Vowell, singles each.

Sanders took the loss on the mound, allowing nine earned runs on 13 hits through the five-inning matchup. She also walked three batters. 

The Lady Diamond Warriors are led by head coach Kristin Chaney and assistant Courtney Nunn.
