Erie CC's Joe Bauth Wins 800th Game as Kats Down Finger Lakes CC

CANANDAIGUA, N.Y. - April 16 - Erie Community College baseball coach Joe Bauth won his 800th game Tuesday as the Kats defeated Finger Lakes CC 11-3 in game one of a scheduled doubleheader. Game two was rained out.

Bauth, who is in his 22nd season, is now 800-443-4 and has guided the Kats to 30-win seasons the past two campaigns. He has led ECC to five NJCAA College World Series appearances.

Sophomore first baseman Ricky Mendiola (Williamsville, N.Y./Williamsville South) led ECC with four hits and four runs batted in. Sophomore outfielder Brian Barry (Derby, N.Y./Lake Shore) added three hits and three RBI. Sophomore outfielder Vinny Sherman (North Collins, N.Y./North Collins) and freshman catcher Zach Hayes (Orchard Park, N.Y./Bishop Timon-St. Jude) also had three hits. Sophomore pitcher Ian Walsh (Wayne, N.Y./Wayne) struck out 10 and scattered five hits to pick up the win.

The Kats used four hits to score three runs in the fifth. Freshman Michael D'Eletto (Wayne, N.Y./Wayne) and Sherman singled before Barry drove home D'Eletto for the game's first run. Sherman scored on a wild pitch before Mendiola singled to right field to score Barry.

After Finger Lakes answered with two in its half of the fifth, the Kats erupted for five runs in the sixth. Marc Dileo (Williamsville, N.Y./Canisius) singled, D'Eletto walked and Sherman singled to load the bases. Barry then singled to score Dileo and D’Eletto. Mendiola drove in Sherman before Nick Manoukarakis (Toronto, Ont./Birchmount Park) singled to knock in Barry. Nick Caboot (Derby, N.Y./Lake Shore) drove in Mendiola with a two-out single.

Mendiola had two-run double in the seventh before scoring on a single by Hayes.

ECC is scheduled to play Finger Lakes Thursday at 2 p.m. at the ECC north campus diamond.
