EC Tennis Teams Sweep Northwest in Season Finale

East Central Community College’s tennis teams wrapped up season competition with victories over Northwest Mississippi Community College Monday, April 15 on the Decatur campus.

The Warriors cruised 9-0 and the Lady Warriors posted a 6-3 victory.

In men’s singles, Blake Cochran of Newton County High School defeated Chase Ferrell, 6-0, 6-0; Andrew Hanna of Newton County Academy beat Weldon Meng, 7-6 (7-5) , 6-1; Brandon St. Clair blanked Seth Cook, 6-0, 6-0; Chris Mays of Louisville defeated Michael Moss, 6-1, 6-0; Hunter Mayo of Leake Academy blanked Miles Moore, 6-0, 6-0; and Josh Peoples of Leake Academy defeated Ike Dulin 6-0, 4-6 (10-2).

In men’s doubles, Cochran and Mays beat Ferrell/Meng, 8-2; Hanna and Calvert defeated Cook/Moss, 8-2; and St. Clair and Peoples blanked Moore/Dulin, 8-0.

EC players posting wins in women’s singles were Alana Turner of Florence, who defeated Adriana Ferretiz, 6-1, 6-0; Amber Pierce of Leake Academy, who beat Randi Robison, 6-1, 6-1; Nan Hartness of Winston Academy, who blanked Hannah Waldrip, 6-0, 6-0; and Hannah Smith of Leake Academy, who defeated Kathryn Hutto, 6-3, 7-6 (7-3). Kelsey Tadlock of Newton County fell 6-3, 6-1 to Ashley Roberson and Haley Chapman, also of Newton County, was defeated 7-5, 6-0 by Hannah Switzer.

In women’s doubles, Turner and Pierce defeated Robison/Rachel Elkins, 8-1; and Hartness and Smith blanked Haleigh Ash/Kasey Pulliam, 8-0. Tadlock and Chapman were edged 8-6 by Sawyer Ewing/Switzer.
