RLC softball enjoys fifth straight win
 April 16, 2013

BELLEVILLE, Ill. (April 15, 2013) – With just six doubleheaders left in the regular season, Rend Lake College softball inched closer to .500 by winning its fourth and fifth straight games on Monday. The Lady Warriors earned a 9-5 verdict and 8-0 shutout at Lindenwood University in Belleville. That sweep comes after wins over John A. Logan College, Sunday, in Ina.

The Lady Volunteers scored two runs in the sixth inning on Sunday, but it was not enough to overcome a Lady Warriors team that had put up a run in the first inning and tacked on two in the fifth. RLC overcame three errors by Lady Warrior fielders and Taylor Thomas (Arcola) picked up another win on the mound. Haley Miller (Rockport, Ind.) had a home run in that game and later drove in the lone RBI that grabbed pitcher Amanda Holloway (Benton) a shutout win in the nightcap against Logan.

Against Lindenwood on Monday, RLC took the first game 9-5 with Erica Wilson (O’Fallon) getting the win on the mound. Rend Lake won the second game 8-0 in five innings with Paige Prather (Evansville, Ind.) pitching and Abbie Lehman (Marissa) catching.
The Lake will host Shawnee at 2 p.m. Tuesday and Southwestern Illinois at 2 p.m. Thursday. RLC heads to Lincoln Trail on Friday and Southeastern Illinois for a makeup doubleheader on Saturday. The regular season will wrap up with a home doubleheader with Lindenwood-Belleville at 2 p.m. Sunday. For all things athletic at The Lake, visit RLC online at www.rlc.edu/warriors.
