OC Sports Baseball Players of the Week: March 11-17
March 20, 2013COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Matt Burgess (Crowder College, Mo.), Brooks de Montluzin (Florida State-Jacksonville.), Kyle Dolan (Pearl River CC, Miss.), Bob Peck (Pasco-Hernando CC, Fla.) and Kevin Alonso (Bergen CC, N.J.) have been named OC Sports NJCAA baseball players of the week for games March 11-17.
Burgess was dominant at the plate last week for the Roughriders. The freshman batted for a .667 average (12-for-18) with two doubles and two home runs. Excelling with runners in scoring position, Burgess recorded 16 RBIs on his 12 hits. Burgess also stole two bases and scored nine runs on the week. In 2013, Burgess leads No. 6 Crowder with a .467 batting average and 26 RBIs. The Blue Wave defeated Lake-Sumter State (Fla.) 3-0 last week behind de Montluzin’s no-hitter. The freshman delivered nine near-perfect innings for Florida State-Jacksonville, striking out seven and giving up only one walk in the performance.
DIVISION II PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Dolan’s offensive effort last week spurred the Wildcats on to four victories in their six games. Compiling a .800 batting average (8-for-10), Dolan drove in six runs and scored two of his own. The freshman had a double and added two walks to his stat sheet. Dolan has a .615 batting average on the season with six RBIs for No. 8 Pearl River. Peck anchored the Conquistadors defense in a 9-1 win over No. 15 Oakton CC (Ill.) last week. The freshman struck out six batters in nine innings of work. Peck allowed only one hit in the outing with one unearned run marring his complete-game shutout attempt. With a 5-0 record in 2013, Peck has a 3.00 ERA in 30 innings pitched.
The Bulldogs went 2-2 last week behind Alonso’s performance at the plate. Batting for a .412 average (7-for-17), Alonso tallied a double and a triple to go along with four RBIs. On the base paths, the sophomore stole five bases and scored six runs. Alonso has been one of Bergen’s top hitters early on this season with a .412 batting average and a team-high four RBIs.
