Rock Valley Claims Back-to-Back National Titles in DIII Women's Hoops

Revonnia Howard of Rock Valley College (Ill.) put on a legendary display in the title game of the 2013 NJCAA Division III Women’s Basketball Championship Saturday night (March 16th) in Rochester, Minn. The sophomore from Chicago, Ill., scored 22 points and grabbed 21 rebounds lead the Golden Eagles to a 78-60 win over Mohawk Valley Community College (N.Y.) for their second-consecutive national championship.
Howard (white jersey, post-player in right photo) found the bottom of the net on nine of 14 field goal attempts and made all four of her free throws. Also leading the way for RVC was TaRicka Linzy who poured in 15 points and four assists following a 23-point performance in the Eagles’ 72-60 win over Montgomery-Rockville (Md.) in Friday night’s semifinals. Marquiesha Grant (#22, left photo) and Keshawnee Alley each added 13 points in the championship game.
Linzy garnered Tournament MVP honors while Howard, Grant and Alley were named to the All-Tournament Team.
Rock Valley, who defeated Ocean County College (N.J.) 84-64 in the opening round of the tournament, is the first team to repeat as champions in DIII women’s basketball in 14 years (Anoka Ramsey CC, Minn. – 1997, ’98, ’99).
