Senators finish seventh at Ron Marshall Spring Fling

SCOTTSBORO, Ala. – The Walters State Senators brought home a seventh place finish in the 12th annual Ron Marshall Spring Fling Saturday at the Goose Pond Colony, the site of the NJCAA Division II National Tournament.
The Senators ended the three-day event with a team score of 906 (42-over par), and they moved up a spot in the final day with a score of 302 (14-over par) to move up one spot on the leaderboard.

Central Alabama won the event with blistering score of 852 (12-under par) to finish 27 shots clear of second place South Mountain (879) who was the defending national champion.

Wallace State was third at 881, while Faulkner State finished fourth at 883 and Darton State rounded out the top five at 888. Meridian totaled a score of 897 to finish sixth, followed by Walters State, Mississippi State (909), Illinois Central (913) and John A. Logan (913) in the top 10.

Brad Hawkins led the Senators with a three-day score of 220 (4-over par) after shooting rounds of 72, 73 and 75 in the event. Chase Atkins ended up tied for 33rd at 228 (77-77-74), while Will Wright ended up tied for 35th at 229 (75-78-76). Andrew Hall totaled a score of 233 (77-76-80) to end up in a tie for 51st, and Ryne Thompson shot 235 (81-77-77) to finish tied for 59th.

The Senators will be back on the links on March 25-26 when they play in the Wingate Spring Invitational at Charlotte, N.C.
