SAINTS SWEEP SOUTH FLORIDA STATE COLLEGE, 6-0 AND 6-3
 February 9, 2013

Box Score 1, Box Score 2

Gainesville, FL – Kevin Martin (2-0) was a force on the mound in game one of a double header against South Florida State College (2-10), tossing a one hitter to lead the Santa Fe Saints (9-2) past the Panthers 6-0.  The SF offense was bolstered by a 4-for-4 performance from sophomore third baseman Connor Castellano.

“We had a good day today as a team,” said SF Coach Johnny Wiggs.  “Martin and Wagner combined for 12 scoreless innings and our hitters put together some big innings to propel us to two big wins.  Martin was exceptional in game one, he really hit his spots and he was throwing all his pitches for strikes.”

Santa Fe scored one in the first and added five in the third for the winning margin.  The five runs in the third came on five hits and a SFSC error. Jonathan Camp delivered the big blow, knocking in two with a RBI triple.  Graham Cason added a RBI double in the inning.

The Saints had 14 hits in the game led by Castellano’s four.  Camp was 2-for-4 with two RBI, Blake Berger was 2-for-4 and Jamal Martin was 2-for-3.

Clayton Wagner (2-0) picked up where Martin left off, tossing five shutout innings as the SF offense staked him to a 6-0 lead after two innings.  Camp followed up his clutch game one performance with a bases clearing triple in the second, giving him five RBI on the day.

South Florida gave a last gasp effort in the sixth and seventh, scoring three runs off reliever Jose Batatino but it was too little too late as the Saints held on for the 6-3 win.

Camp was 2-for-3 with a triple and three RBI, Bryan Evans finished 2-for-3 and Castellano was 2-for-2.

Castellano finished the day 6-for-6 with two walks, reaching base in all eight of his plate appearances.

“I’m really proud of the way our guys bounced back from a rough day yesterday,” said Wiggs.  “They showed some toughness today and got it done when we needed a couple wins.”

The Saints travel to Pasco-Hernando CC on Wednesday, February 13 for a game against the Conquistadors at 3:00 PM.
