Bobcats improve to 15-4 with victory over William Carey JV

ELLISVILLE – Detrick Davis scored 21 points to lead the Jones County Junior College Bobcats to an 84-61 victory over the William Carey University Junior Varsity here Wednesday night at A.B. Howard Gymnasium.

The win improves the Bobcats to 15-4 on the season.

The Bobcats return to MACJC South Division play Monday at Hinds Community College in Utica. The women’s game tips at 6 p.m., followed by the men’s game at 8 p.m. Keep up with the game on Twitter @jcjc_athletics.

William Carey travels to Delgado Community College (La.) on Monday.

Bobcats 84, Crusaders 61

The Bobcats were never threatened as they cruised to the win.

A Dontavious Lewis 3-pointer gave JCJC the lead for good at 6-4 with 16:18 showing in the first half. The Bobcats ran the lead out to 24-10 with 8:22 to play when Detrick Davis scored.

Jones took its longest lead of the first half at 32-16 with 4:44 left when Detrick Davis scored off an offensive rebound. A Desmond Stanback basket with two seconds left on the clock gave Jones a 41-26 halftime lead.

The Bobcats continued their solid play in the second half. A Detrick Davis layup capped an 8-0 run and gave JCJC a 55-30 lead with 16:00 left.

The closest William Carey would get after that was 65-49 with 7:29 remaining on an Andre Funches basket. JCJC matched its longest lead at 78-53 with 4:03 to play on a Cory Jackson putback.

Emmanuel Davis added 13 for JCJC, while Lewis had 11.

Christopher London scored 13 and Laceddrick Edmonson added 12 for the Crusaders, 4-5.

JCJC had topped the WCU JV 80-49 on Nov. 5.
