NJCAA Women's Basketball Players of the Week: Jan. 7-13
January 16, 2013COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Joymesia Howard (Central Arizona College), Courtney Dyer (Schoolcraft College, Mich.) and Alicia Cox (Cumberland CC, N.J.) have been named NJCAA women’s basketball players of the week for games Jan. 7-13.
The No. 4 Vaqueras extended their win-streak to 12 games last week behind Howard’s efficient shooting and domination of the boards. Howard was 12-for-16 from the field with 26 points and 10 rebounds in an 84-68 victory over Eastern Arizona College. In a 65-60 win over Cochise College (Ariz.), the freshman scored a game-high 25 points and pulled down 15 rebounds including four on the offensive end.
Dyer lit up the scoreboard last week as the Ocelots went 1-2 against MCCAA opponents. Despite falling 75-60 to Delta College (Mich.), Dyer totaled 27 points, eight rebounds and five assists. The sophomore then led Schoolcraft to a 77-62 win over Oakland CC (Mich.) behind five 3-pointers and 27 points. Dyer finished off the week with 23 points and three steals in a narrow 71-65 loss to Henry Ford CC (Mich.).
Stepping into the spotlight in the Dukes’ lone game last week, Cox cleared the way for Cumberland’s 76-63 win over Bergen CC (N.J.). The sophomore knocked down 9-of-16 shots from the field and sunk 8-of-10 free throws for a team-high 27 points. Cox was a terror on the defensive end of the court, picking away 11 steals in the victory. Adding to her numbers, Cox also dished out nine assists and pulled down six rebounds.
