#5 Panthers Advance to Quarterfinals
DRYDEN, N.Y. - The TC3 men's soccer team advanced to the NJCAA Region III quarterfinals with a 2-0 win over Fulton-Montgomery Community College Saturday. The 5th-seeded Panthers will play at #4 Broome Community College Tuesday. TC3 is now 12-7 overall and 12-4 in regional play. Fulton-Montgomery, the 12 seed, ends the year 7-8-1 overall and 6-8-1 in Region III.
The Panthers enjoyed a comfortable margin in shots, but it took until late in the second half to find the net. With 11:59 left in the game, Brandon Kohler (Minisink Valley H.S./Westtown) took the ball up the left sideline before playing a pretty cross to Jean-Pierre Rosas (Ithaca H.S./Guayaguil, Ecuador) about 30 yards from the goal. The blast by Rosas went untouched into the back of the net, giving the home team the 1-0 lead. Four minutes later, the Panthers started another scoring rush, this time with Magor Mbengue (International H.S./Bronx) sliding a ball from a crowd in front of the net to an open Salar Ahmad (Binghamton H.S./Disoldov, Germany) in the left side of the box. Ahmad beat the keeper with a shot to the upper corner, making it 2-0 and sealing the game for the Panthers.
In a game that TC3 outshot Fulton-Montgomery 19-5, TC3's Lucas Mitchell (Thousand Islands H.S./Clayton) earned the shutout with four saves.
