Bobcats win in 2OT; Lady Bobcats blank Co-LinSeptember 11, 2013
WESSON – Eric Johnson’s goal in the 100th minute lifted the Jones County Junior College Bobcats to an exciting 2-1, double overtime victory over Copiah-Lincoln Community College here Tuesday night.
In the women’s game, the Lady Bobcats posted its fifth shutout in as many games with a 5-0 victory over Co-Lin. JCJC has outscored its opponents 20-0 this season.
The Bobcat teams return home for more MACJC South Division play on Friday vs. Southwest Mississippi. The women’s game starts at 5 p.m., followed by the men’s game at 7 p.m.
Co-Lin travels to Pearl River on Saturday.
Bobcats 2, Wolves 1 (2OT)
Co-Lin scored first at 26:14 on a goal by Chance Holden via an assist by Eric Lima.
It stayed that way until 58:05 when Long Beach freshman Cole Smith scored off an assist by Mobile, Ala., sophomore Kevin Ndongo to make it 1-1.
Johnson, a sophomore from West Harrison, scored just 26 seconds into the second overtime to end the game.
Gabe Brown, a freshman from Lewisburg, was in goal for JCJC.
The Bobcats outshot the Wolves, 20-6. Brown was credited with five saves, while Co-Lin’s Wesley Varner had 11.
JCJC had eight corner kicks and Co-Lin had one. The Wolves committed six fouls and Jones committed three.
The Bobcats are now 3-1 overall and 1-1 in South Division play.
Co-Lin is 1-6 overall, 0-2 in the division.
Lady Bobcats 5, Lady Wolves 0
Lindy Tabor, a freshman from Florence, had a ‘hat trick’ for JCJC by scoring three goals.
Anna Mills, a freshman from South Pontotoc, got the Lady Bobcats on the board quickly at 1:59 with an unassisted goal. Kelsey Cochran of Greene County then scored off an assist by Alexis Thornton of Terry at 3:57. JCJC took a 3-0 lead going into intermission with a goal by Tabor and an assist by Cochran at 27:56.
Tabor’s next goal came at 57:18 on an assist by Karlee Mullins of Franklin County. She scored her final goal moments later on an assist by Cochran.
Paige Williams was in goal for JCJC.
The Lady Bobcats took 23 shots in the game, while Co-Lin had none. JCJC had four corner kicks and Co-Lin had none. Co-Lin committed four fouls, compared to two for JCJC.
The Lady Bobcats are 5-0 overall, 2-0 in the division.
Co-Lin drops to 0-7 overall, 0-2 in division play.
