Ancilla Suffers First Loss
 September 10, 2013

DONALDSON, IN – The Ancilla College soccer team lost their first match of the season, falling to NJCAA #7 Cincinnati State 4-3.

Ancilla took the lead in the fourth minute with an own goal when the Cincinnati left back attempted to pass it to the goalkeeper and played it straight into the goal. The Surge responded with two goals in the first half to take a 2-1 lead at the break.

The host Chargers tied the game in the 60th minute with a fine strike by David Zendejas into the bottom left corner.

There were two goals within the 77th and 78th minutes. After Cincinnati took a 3-2 lead, Ancilla answered immediately through some great work by Jose Herrera, who set up Isaias Morales to score with a left footed slide at the near post to tie the game.

Unfortunately for the Chargers, they were mismatched on a corner kick with six minutes to play when The Surge scored a looping header from a corner to win the contest.

“I knew this was going to be the toughest test we have faced this season,” said Ancilla coach Adam Hall. “I was excited to see how we would compete and was very disappointed with some of the goals we conceded today as we eliminated a lot of our hard work with simple mistakes. I am pleased that we were able to compete with a team who is consistently in the top of our region every year. Hopefully we can learn from this experience and get our season back on track with another two tough games next Friday and Sunday.”

Ancilla travels to Livonia, Michigan to take on Schoolcraft College, the NJCAA preseason #9 team in the country, on Friday, September 13 at 1:00 p.m. On Sunday, September 15, they will take on NJCAA #18 Owens Community College at 1:00 p.m. in Donaldson.

Ancilla College, a part of The Center at Donaldson, enrolls just under 500 students in 18 Associate’s Degree programs. Founded by the Poor Handmaids of Jesus Christ in 1937, Ancilla is located 2 miles south of US 30 on Union Road near Plymouth, Indiana.
