Lady Senators rout Wytheville, pick up third win in three days

MORRISTOWN, Tenn. – The Walters State Lady Senators volleyball team picked up their third win in as many days and fourth in their last five matches with a blowout win over Wytheville (Va.) inside ‘Z’ Buda Gymnasium, Monday.

The Lady Senators overwhelmed the Lady Wildcats from the opening serve and never let up, winning 25-8, 25-12 and 25-3 to improve to 7-5 on the year.

Megan Blaylock led Walters State in the win with 15 kills, while Moriah McKinney added 22 digs and Taylor Rymer had 24 service points, seven assists and three aces. Rymer served 15 straight points in the third game of the match to give WSCC a 15-0 lead.

The Lady Senators also finished second over the weekend in the inaugural Walters State Invitational, going 2-1 in the single-day tournament.

The Lady Senators rolled past Georgia Northwest 25-13, 25-11 and 25-13 behind 14 kills from Blaylock, 11 digs from McKinney, nine digs from Emily Lowe and 13 assists from Rymer.

WSCC added a second victory in five sets over Southern Union (Ala.) State, as Blaylock pounded 25 kills in the win. Rymer tallied 15 assists and 13 digs, while McKinney added 22 assists and Lowe had 19 digs.

The only loss for the Lady Senators came to Spartanburg Methodist, who went 3-0 in the tournament. The Lady Pioneers won the close match 25-19, 23-25, 25-22 and 26-24.

Blaylock recorded 18 kills, while McKinney and Lowe had 12 digs and Rymer added 11 assists in the defeat.

The Lady Senators will be back in action this weekend when they have a tri-match at Crown College on Friday and Johnson University on Saturday.
