Lady Bobcats open division play with win over Pearl RiverSeptember 9, 2013
ELLISVILLE – Danielle Fortin scored two second half goals to lead the Jones County Junior College Lady Bobcats to a 2-0 victory over Pearl River Community College here Saturday night before a large crowd at Bobcat Soccer Field.
It was a bit of revenge for JCJC, who fell 2-0 to Pearl River in the 2012 state championship game last year in Poplarville.
The Lady Bobcats have not allowed a goal in four games this year.
In the men’s game, the Wildcats got four goals from Michael Allizzo, including two in the final 1:27 to break a 2-2 tie, to lift Pearl River to a 4-2 victory.
JCJC continues MACJC South Division play on Tuesday at Copiah-Lincoln. The women’s game begins at 4 p.m., followed by the men’s game at 6:30 p.m.
Pearl River hosts Mississippi Gulf Coast on Tuesday.
Lady Bobcats 2, Lady Wildcats 0
JCJC’s defense continued to sparkle. The Lady Bobcats have outscored their opponents 14-0 in four games.
Fortin scored her first goal off a Lindy Tabor assist at 51:25 to give Jones a 1-0 lead. Her second goal came at 82:24 off an assist by Katie Johnson.
Briahna Dickerson was in goal the entire game for JCJC and posted two saves. Courtney Caldarelli was in goal for PRCC and had two saves.
The Lady Bobcats had seven shots in the game, four shots on goal. Pearl River had four shots, two shots on goal.
The Lady Bobcats had two corner kicks, compared to one for PRCC. JCJC committed six fouls, compared to four for the Lady Wildcats.
JCJC is now 4-0 overall, 1-0 in the division.
Pearl River drops to 2-3 overall, 0-1 in the division.
Wildcats 4, Bobcats 2
It was a physical contest and the Wildcats managed to prevail at the very end.
The game was tied 2-2 when Allizzo was fouled and got a free kick.
He capitalized and knocked it in the goal at the 88:33 mark.
The Bobcats then came out aggressively in attempt to tie the game in the final minute. But Allizzo was able to score again at the 89:51 mark to clinch the game.
Allizzo got Pearl River off to a very quick start, scoring the game’s first goal just 20 seconds into the contest.
JCJC tied it at 14:13 on a beautifully executed play.
JaMarcus Ducksworth had a corner kick from the left side. Kevin Ndongo headed the ball to Buckley, who drilled it into the goal.
The Wildcats took a 2-1 lead at 30:26 when Allizzo scored.
The Bobcats tied it at 2-2 when Buckley scored an unassisted goal at 78:02.
Gabe Brown was in goal for JCJC and had six saves, while Logan Tassin was the keeper for PRCC and had five saves.
Each team had 11 shots in the game. The Bobcats had three corner kicks, while PRCC had two. The Bobcats committed 11 fouls, compared to eight for the Wildcats.
JCJC is now 2-1 overall, 0-1 in the division.
Pearl River is 2-2 overall, 1-0 in league play.
