Charger Volleyball Defeated on the Road
 September 6, 2013

LANSING, MI – The Ancilla volleyball team faced an upset in their first conference match versus Lansing Community College, with a score of 28-26, 25-18, 25-15.

Although the match ended in a loss, the Chargers put forth a great effort. Defensively, Mackenzie White was tops on the team with 25 receive attempts and ten digs. At the net, Ancilla was led by Amber Redinger and Hayley Mavrick. Redinger finished with eight kills and four blocks. Mavrick added seven kills. Suzanne Grimm (13) and Courtney Griffith (11) had 24 of the Chargers’ 25 assists.

“It was a disappointing night,” said Ancilla College volleyball coach Lana Singleton. “Lansing, is a much improved team from last years’ squad, but some things just did not go our way and we struggled with consistent play. Offensive coverage definitely needs some work. We battled hard and I thought we should have won game one. A huge momentum shift swung in Lansing’s favor in game two and we could not do anything right, giving up several points in unforced errors. We played hard and more together in set three but was trying to come from behind and make up points. Hayley [Mavrick] did a decent job offensively for us and I felt our setters [Griffith and Grimm] went hard and tried to make things happen, we just struggled as a team. Hannah [Sneed] had some great digs for us.”

Ancilla travels to Vincennes University this weekend at the Vincennes Challenge.

Ancilla College, a part of The Center at Donaldson, enrolls just under 500 students in 18 Associate’s Degree programs. Founded by the Poor Handmaids of Jesus Christ in 1937, Ancilla is located 2 miles south of US 30 on Union Road near Plymouth, Indiana.
