EC Softball Squad Completes Winning Season

East Central Community College’s softball squad completed Region 23 Tournament competition with a 10-4 loss to Jones County Junior College Friday, May 10 at Traceway Park in Clinton.

The Lady Diamond Warriors racked up 10 hits but their effort fell short against the Lady Bobcats who eventually finished second in the double-elimination event.

Ty Buckley of Neshoba Central belted a two-run homer to lead EC’s offense.

Collecting multiple hits were LaJoya Griffin of Philadelphia, Amber McBroom of Brandon, Haley Stephens of Union and Dakota Vowell of Neshoba Central, each with two singles. Morgan Porter of Enterprise contributed a single.

Tenna Patterson took the loss in relief. She hurled 5 2/3 innings and allowed three earned runs on four hits. Patterson is a product of Lexington (Ala.) High School. Starter Mary Sanders pitched 1/3 inning and allowed three earned runs on four hits.

EC began Region 23 competition with a 6-1 setback to eventual Region 23 champion LSU-Eunice.

The Lady Diamond Warriors finished season action with a 31-17 record under first-year head coach Kristin Chaney and assistant Courtney Nunn.
