Bossier Parish ends Buccaneers' season, 7-5
 May 12, 2013

Blinn finishes with 31-26 record

LUFKIN, Texas – Sophomore infielder Kevin Santana  tallied three hits and reached base four times, but it wasn’t enough to extend the Blinn Buccaneers’ season here Sunday.

Blinn was eliminated from the Region XIV Baseball Tournament by Bossier Parish, 7-5. The Buccaneers were defeated by Panola 3-2 in the first round of the tournament.

Santana led the Buccaneers with three hits, and Scott Jones, Brandon Montalvo, Nolan Brown and Colin Kowal each had two as the Buccaneers finished with 14 on the day. But doubles from Santana and Vesely were the only extra-base hits the Buccaneers managed off three Bossier Parish pitchers.

Lance Jones and Chance Daughdrill combined for seven of Bossier Parish’s 14 hits.

Buccaneer starting pitcher Karl Malececk threw just 1 1/3 innings, allowing four earned runs on four hits and two walks. Blake Whitter settled things down with 6 1/3 innings of relief, allowing two earned runs on eight hits while striking out four. Robert Dickey recorded the final four outs.

Blinn took a 2-0 lead in the first inning on an RBI single from Montalvo and a bases-loaded walk to Tyler Coker.

But the Cavaliers struck back with four runs in the second inning. They would never relinquish that lead, adding two more runs in the fourth.

An RBI single by Coker cut Bossier Parish’s lead to 6-3, but the Cavaliers added another run in the top of the eighth. Jones and Coker hit sacrifice flies in the bottom eighth to cut the lead to two runs, but the Bossier Parish bullpen stood firm in the ninth.

The Buccaneers finish the season with a 31-26 record. The team will graduate a sophomore class that includes J.C. Neighbors, Coker, Kowal, Taylor Cobb, Quinton Evans, Hayden Vesely, Josh Garza, Robert Garza, Scott Jones, Santana, Holden Cammack, Michael Vielma, Kyle Mueller, Whitter, Malecek and Trent Rape.
