Road Split for TC3 Baseball
 April 19, 2013

CORNING, N.Y. – The Tompkins Cortland Community College baseball team picked up a road doubleheader split at Corning Community College Thursday. After dropping game one 5-4, the Panthers bounced back for a 9-0 win in the nightcap. TC3 is now 4-10 overall and 4-8 in the West Division. Corning is 1-11 overall and 1-9 in the West Division.

TC3 opened the scoring with a run in the top of the first of game one, but Corning responded and led 3-1 after two innings. The Panthers cut the lead to 3-2 in the top of the fifth, but two more Corning runs in the bottom of the fifth made it 5-2. Single runs in the sixth and seventh brought the Panthers to within a single run, but TC3 couldn’t plate the tying run.

Sean Streb (Lansing H.S./Lansing) went 2-for-4 at the plate to lead the seven-hit attack. Letty McFall (Charles O. Dickerson H.S./Trumansburg) took the loss on the hill, allowing four earned runs while striking out two over six innings.
In game two, the Panthers took advantage of 10 walks to win comfortably. Akeem Vereen (John F. Kennedy H.S./Bronx) led the way from the top of the lineup, going 3-for-4, and Juan Balbuena (George Washington H.S./Harlem) reached base safely in every plate appearance, tying a TC3 record by drawing four walks. Matt Jones (Greene H.S./Greene) tossed the shutout, allowing six hits while striking out six.

TC3 is home Saturday against Niagara County Community College at 1 p.m.
