Baseball Bobcats sweep Mississippi DeltaFebruary 20, 2013

ELLISVILLE – Westin Stringer and Cody Brewer had two solid pitching performances for the Jones County Junior College Bobcats here Wednesday afternoon at Community Bank Park.
Stringer scattered seven hits and struck out six as the Bobcats rolled to a 12-2, five-inning victory in game one. Brewer went six innings, struck out 12 and gave up only three hits in game two as JCJC posted a 3-0 decision.
The Bobcats, 4-2, will play a 1 p.m. Sunday doubleheader at Baton Rouge Community College (La.). The game was rescheduled from Friday because of the threat of rain.
JCJC’s next home games will be at 2 p.m. on Tuesday against Meridian Community College.
Mississippi Delta, 1-3, travels to Southwest at 2 p.m. on Friday.
Bobcats 12, Trojans 2
Alex Shermer blasted a three-run home run to center field in the bottom of the fifth inning to end the game by the ‘mercy rule.’
The Bobcats were trailing 2-1 going into the bottom of the third inning when they scored twice to take the lead.
JCJC put the game away with a six-run, fourth inning.
Stephen Stiglets started the inning with a single and Benji Sullivan followed with a two-run double. Tyler Graves then singled Sullivan home and advanced to third base on an error. Codey Minter followed with an RBI single and advanced a base on another error.
Jordan Stark then reached on an infield single and Shermer followed with a walk. Steven Billingsley then drove in a run with a fielder’s choice. Shermer came home on an errant pick off throw.
In the bottom of the fifth, Graves and Minter singled and with two outs, Shermer came through with the three-run bomb to center.
Stringer, 2-0, posted the victory
Shermer homered, singled and had four RBIs. Sullivan had two doubles, while Stiglets, Graves and Stark each had two singles. Minter, Billingsley and Lamar Anthony added singles.
Josh Duhon started, went 3 1/3 innings and took the loss. Evan Hickman pitched 1/3 of an inning and Matthew Shamoun finished up.
Eagle Weustney tripled and singled for the Trojans, while Barrett Wooten doubled. Tyler Mize, Danny Springer, Cody Marks and Drew Sciabarassi added singles.
Bobcats 3, Trojans 0
Brewer, the Perry Central sophomore and Delta State University signee, was splendid for the Bobcats. He had two strikeouts in the first inning, three in the second, two in the third, two in the fourth, one in the fifth and two in the sixth. He is 1-0 on the season.
Cole Barlow pitched the final inning and got the save. He allowed no hits and fanned two, giving the Bobcats 14 strikeouts in the game.
JCJC took a 2-0 lead in the second when Shermer drew a one-out walk and Josh Pankratz followed with an RBI double into the left field corner. Pankratz stole third and scored on Collin Dexter’s sacrifice fly to left.
The Bobcats added a run in the fifth when Anthony reached on an error, stole second, took third on an error and scored on a Sullivan groundout.
Sullivan, the Bobcat shortstop and also a Delta State signee, ended the MDCC fourth inning with a sensational diving stop to his right into the hole. He got up and threw Springer out at first base.
Pankratz doubled twice for JCJC, while Stark doubled and singled. Minter and Shermer had singles.
Springer, Cody Marks and Lee Harbour had singles for the Trojans.
Devontae Wilson started, went 3 1/3 innings and took the loss. He gave up five hits, walked two and struck out one. Turner Neely pitched an inning and Dustin Lingle went the final 1 2/3 innings, gave up one hit and struck out one.
