No. 20 Lady Senators sweep Aiken Tech
 February 9, 2013

AIKEN, S.C. – The 20th ranked Walters State Lady Senators softball team wrapped up their first weekend of action Saturday by sweeping Aiken Tech in a pair of close games on the road.
The Lady Senators rode the arm of Kelsey Weddle in the opening game, as the sophomore tossed a three-hit complete game shutout to lead WSCC to a 3-0 victory.

The second game proved to be more difficult, as Lindsey Vaught allowed only one run in six innings to keep the Lady Senators in it, and Courtney Hutcherson blasted a home run in the eighth inning that help Walters State escape with a 4-3 win.

With the sweep, the Lady Senators completed their road trip with a 4-0 mark to open the season, while the losses dropped Aiken to 5-8 on the year.

In the opening game, Katelyn Stewart belted a pair of hits, while Haley Taylor, Hutcherson, Latosha Rectenwald and Brooke Rhodes each had a hit in the win. Hutcherson, Rectenwald and Hannah Kiser drove in the runs in the victory.

Weddle (2-0) scattered three hits and struck out three batters to collect the win.

In the nightcap, Andrea Eison put the Lady Senators on top in the eight inning with an RBI single that scored Taylor, and Hutcherson followed with a two-run homer.

Walters State had to fight off a rally, as freshman pitcher Taylor Green picked up her first win by holding Aiken to two runs in the eighth.

Taylor, Eison and Hutcherson all had two hits in the win, while Kendi King added an RBI double.

Green (1-0) got the win after allowing two runs on one hit in two innings of work. Vaught got a no decision despite allowing only one run on seven hits in six innings.

The Lady Senators will be back in action Friday when they travel to the Peach State to take on Georgia Perimeter in a doubleheader before taking part in the GPC Classic on Saturday and Sunday. First pitch Friday is set for 4 p.m.
