No. 20 Lady Senators toss pair of no-hitters in twinbill sweep

AIKEN, S.C. – The season opening doubleheader for the 20th ranked Walters State Lady Senators could not have went much better against USC Lancaster on the road.

The Lady Senators swept the twinbill by matching scores of 15-0 in five innings each game, as they smacked 30 hits and eight home runs and had all four pitchers combine to toss two no-hitters in the victories.

Walters State (2-0) had six different players record multiple hits in the opening game and four more in the second game, with six different players going deep as well.

In the opening game, sophomore hurler Kelsey Weddle tossed four innings as the starting pitcher, and Taylor Green worked the fifth inning to finish off the first no-hitter of the evening.

Andrea Eison and Lindsee Price both had three hits in the opener, while Latosha Rectenwald and Hannah Kiser both added two hits in the win. Price, Rectenwald, Eison and Courtney Hutcherson all homered in the victory over USC Lancaster (0-4).

In the nightcap, sophomore Lindsey Vaught worked the first four innings on the mound before giving way to Maddie Griffin in the fifth to finish off the no-hitter.

Eison had four hits in the nightcap, including a pair of doubles, and Haley Taylor added three hits in the win. Price, Rectenwald, Brooke Rhodes and Katelyn Stewart each added a pair of hits.

Eison, Stewart, Hutcherson and Ayana Spivey all added homers in the victory, giving Eison and Hutcherson two round trippers each on the day.

Walters State will be back on the diamond Saturday when they take on Aiken Tech (5-6) in a doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m.
