ALLEN AND VANCE LED THE WAY FOR NORTHEAST IN SWEEP OVER HOLMES
 January 25, 2013

BOONEVILLE, Miss. – Angelia Allen and Acie Vance helped propel their teams to victory last night at Bonner Arnold Coliseum in front of a large crowd as they faced off against Holmes Community College.

Allen scored a career-high 27 points in the opener while Vance hit a game-high 29 points to go along with nine boards in the Tigers’ victory in the nightcap.

Lady Tiger head coach Brian Alexander talked about the importance of the win in the pivotal north division match up and apparently his message got through to his unit.

“I am proud of the way our team responded tonight,” explained Alexander.  “We made a few adjustments at the break and we were able to capitalize on those adjustments.”

Antionette Riddle added 15 points and six boards into the mix, along with eight points from Talish Boyd and seven points from LaTonya Gadison.

The Lady Tigers defeated the Lady Bulldogs 69-59 and moved to 8-6 overall and 4-1 in the north while Holmes fell to 6-9 and 1-3.

In the nightcap the Tigers, who had dropped to 1-3 in the north division after Tuesday night’s loss to Coahoma, also faced a crucial game and they also responded to the challenge and walked away with a big win at home over the Bulldogs 78-68.

Leading the way was Vance who helped seal the deal late in the second half with back-to-back three-point shots  -- from deep behind the arc.

“It felt really good to get this win because we needed it bad and I was glad to be able to help,” Vance said.  “This win gives us some confidence and some momentum going into the next few ball games.

With the win the Tigers moved to 7-7 overall and 2-3 in the division while Holmes dropped to 8-7, 2-2 respectively.

Next up for Northeast will be Mississippi Delta Community College on Monday, January 28 in Moorhead.  Tip time is set for 6 p.m. for the women and the men will follow.
