RLC Lady Warriors get double-digit win over Lady Vols in Ina
 January 22, 2013

INA, Ill. (Jan. 21, 2013) – Built on the backs of forwards Jennifer Moeller (Nashville) and Elyse Jackson (Madison, Wisc.), Rend Lake College coach Ward McDaniel’s playbook paid off Monday night, with most of the Lady Warriors’ points coming from inside the paint in its 62-49 win over  John A. Logan College in Ina.

Rend Lake’s inside game was bolstered by solid outside performances from shooters Kristina Henley (Metropolis) and Tazonda Gibbs (Detroit).

The Lady Warriors handed over a double-digit lead to go into halftime tied at 29-29. But RLC came out strong and kept fighting, keeping Logan at bay and expanding on its lead. A free throw by Jackson broke a four-minute scoring drought to put RLC up 57-46 with three minutes left in the second half.

Logan broke the seal on the long shot with around seven minutes left to play, relying mostly on sophomore guard Autumn Miller and sophomore forward Kyra Navarrete to try and bring it back with three-pointers. It was unsuccessful. Gibbs’ three-point bucket to barely beat the shot clock put RLC up by 13 with less than two minutes left and seemed to break the Lady Vols’ spirit.

The win puts the RLC Lady Warriors at 10-9 overall and 3-5 in the Great Rivers Athletic Conference. Its next game is Jan. 30 hosting Lake Land College. Tip-off is set for 5:30 p.m.
