TC3 Men's Basketball Beats Corning 60-39
 January 16, 2013

Fewest Points Allowed Since 1981

DRYDEN, N.Y. – The Tompkins Cortland Community College men’s basketball team set a new school record Tuesday, holding Corning Community College to just 39 points in a 60-39 win. The defensive effort was the program’s best since the NJCAA’s adoption of the shot clock and the three-point line era, which both date back to the mid 1980s, and the second best ever for TC3. The home win moves TC3 to 4-0 in the MSAC and 12-3 overall, and ties the school record for consecutive wins with eight. Corning drops to 1-2 in conference and 4-11 overall.

The first half saw nine lead changes, with Corning never ahead by more than two points. TC3’s biggest lead of the half was eight points before settling in at a 30-25 lead at the break. In the second half the lead continued to grow as Corning connected on just 26% of its shots in the final 20 minutes.

Tyseem Lyles (Health Professions H.S./Brooklyn) led a balanced TC3 attack with 15 points while also pulling down six rebounds, six steals, and four assists. Jaanai Beckford (Northstar Christian Academy/Yonkers) poured in ten points to go with four rebounds, four assists, and two steals. Brandon Reed (Corcoran H.S./Syracuse) narrowly missed a double-double with nine points, eight rebounds, three steals, and two assists, and Caleb Wright (Cortland H.S./Cortland) had eight points, four rebounds, three assists, and three steals.

TC3 plays at Onondaga Community College Saturday.
