Bucks ready for road trip after crushing Cougars

LYNCHBURG, TN (January 14, 2013) – All 15 Motlow Bucks who played scored at least two points and pulled down at least one rebound during a one-sided 134-43 trouncing of visiting Mid-Continent College at Copperweld Arena Saturday afternoon.
The Lady Bucks’ scheduled contest against the Nashville All-Stars was cancelled.

Both Motlow squads will step back into TCCAA action for the first time since Dec. 8 when they travel to Memphis to face Southwest Tennessee on Friday, with the women’s tipoff scheduled for 6 p.m. The season’s longest road trip will continue the following day at Dyersburg State, and then end on Saturday, Jan. 26 at Volunteer State in Gallatin.

Six Bucks scored in double figures Saturday, led by Sean Gardner with 20, including 18 in the first half, and Perrin Buford with 18. Joining them was Chris Hawkins with 11 and Charles Waters, J.C. Bonny, and Kerrell Davis with 10 points each.

Motlow (11-2, 7-0) led 19-0 before the Cougars scored their first point and 24-2 before the visitors hit their first shot from the floor. The Motlow lead ballooned to 65-22 at halftime and 100-31 with nine minutes to play.

The Bucks hit 12 three-point shots during the contest, including four by Gardner in the first half. The Bucks forced the visitors into 23 turnovers while committing only eight.

D.J. Jones scored seven points with four assists and four steals, Kevonta Black had six points along with three rebounds, five assists and two steals, Darryl Bond scored six and pulled down six rebounds, and Buford added three rebounds, five assists and two blocked shots to his 18 points.

The scoring outburst fell five points shy of the all-time single game scoring record for Motlow basketball. The Bucks scored 138 points against Chattanooga State in 1994. The 43 points allowed was the fifth-fewest in a single game in school history.
