Five football JCJC Bobcats ink with senior collegesDecember 20, 2012

ELLISVILLE – At least five Jones County Junior College football players signed scholarships with senior colleges on Wednesday.
Offensive tackle Fredrick Moore, linebacker Damien Wilson, defensive ends Chavez Sims and Felton Collins and defensive tackle Cameron McLeod all inked with Division I schools on the opening day of the mid-year signing period.
Moore, a first-team NJCAA All-American, signed with the University of Southern Mississippi, becoming one of the first signees for new head coach Todd Monken.
Moore is a 6-foot-5, 325-pound sophomore from Heidelberg High School. He was a two-year starter at offensive tackle for the Bobcats. He was named the MACJC South Division’s Most Valuable Offensive Lineman, All-MACJC South Division first-team and All-Region 23.
Wilson, an honorable mention NJCAA All-American, signed with the University of Minnesota of the Big Ten Conference.
Wilson, a 6-foot-3, 230-pound sophomore from Amite County High School, was named the Most Valuable Defensive Player for Region 23, the MACJC’s South Division Most Valuable Defensive Back, All-MACJC South Division first-team and All-Region 23. He led the MACJC and was fourth in the nation in tackles with 76 solos, 46 assists and 122 total tackles. Wilson transferred to JCJC from Alcorn State University prior to his sophomore year.
Sims, an MACJC All-South Division first-team performer, and Collins each signed with Murray State University of the Ohio Valley Conference.
Sims, a 6-foot-2, 237-pound player from Mize High School, was sixth in the state in quarterback sacks with six. He finished with 36 solo tackles, 26 assists and 62 total tackles. He played in the MACJC All-Star Classic.
Collins, a 6-foot-4, 250-pound sophomore from Laurel High School, had 17 solo tackles, 10 assists and 27 total tackles. He had 2.5 sacks, 1.5 tackles for loss and two fumble recoveries. He played in the MACJC All-Star Classic. Collins played tight end on offense and basketball during his freshman year at JCJC.
McLeod, a 6-foot-3, 285-pound sophomore from Greene County High School, signed with Ohio University of the Mid-American Conference. He had 15 solo tackles, 12 assists and 27 total tackles. He had .5 sacks and 1.5 tackles for loss. McLeod played in the MACJC All-Star Classic.
Several more players from head coach Ray Perkins’ 2012 team are expected to sign with senior colleges over the next few weeks.
