Sixth-ranked VU runs record to 11-0 by blasting Sinclair 102-58
December 9, 2012
The Vincennes University Men's Basketball Team made a foregone conclusion of things early on Saturday night against Sinclair and routed the visiting Tartan Pride 102-58 to move to 11-0 on the season.
The sixth-ranked Trailblazers got 19 points from sophomore Deshawn Delaney to lead a balanced scoring attack in which sophomores Jerrod Gaston, Darius Carter and Monte Burney scored 17, 11 and 10 points, respectively. Sophomore Tyran de Lattibeaudiere and freshman Devin Foster both chipped in with nine points.
Sinclair Sophomore Charlie Byers scored a game-high 23, 14 after halftime.
VU had opened up a 28-10 lead just after the 7:00 mark in the first half and, when Carter swatted a shot by Sinclair's Gavin Schumann at the buzzer, the Trailblazers carried a 46-21 lead to the locker room at halftime.
After the game resumed, Burney's quick move along the baseline, followed by his slam dunk in transition the next time down the floor and de Lattibeaudiere's old-fashioned three-point play put VU up 72-38 with 10:00 to go. After that, the Trailblazers added to the lead by outscoring the Tartan Pride 30-20 the rest of the way.
VU will close out the 2012 portion of its 2012-13 schedule on Saturday, Dec. 15, by hosting Lindsey Wilson in a 3 p.m. game at the VU P.E. Complex. The Trailblazers will then be idle through the holidays and return to game action Jan. 3 as Score Academy comes to the P.E. Complex for a 7 p.m. tip-off. Neither of those games will be streamed or broadcast via tape-delay on WVUT-TV, Channel 22.
